Oh how nice was it for Leon Knight to head in from about an inch off the ground and silence the Colchester United idiots, and I mean the players not the 300 away fans!
Number 12, who looked a good player, decided to come over to the South Stand to celebrate the Colchester equaliser by cupping his hand to his ear.
For the next 10 minutes number 12 and the sub Andrews were taking the p*ss out of Guy Butters making fat stomach taunts to him and then they turned there attention to Charlie, but he just gave them the wa**ers sign, top response Charlie.
When we scored we gave Andrews and Fagan (sp?) plenty of stick and the smile had gone from their faces. At the end Fagan was the first to sprint to the tunnel, but Harding managed to get to him before he left the pitch and unable to shake hands he gave him a playful slap, he deserved a good smack in the mush.
Now Fagan looked a good player, but his attitude stinks and I can see why Birmingham City off loaded him from the season. Plenty of the Colchester players showed an arrogance beyond a mediocre second division team heading nowhere, if they put as much effort into playing football as trying to wing up opposition players and fans they would be premiership, shame they are heading for the scrap heap rather than the top. The winning goal was my favourite moment so far this season!
End of my rant and back to the match review. It was a hard fought win, against a Colchester side that at times played some good football. We looked strong at the back, but Harding got caught out by Fagan who did well to keep a ball in twice, put over a good cross, they nodded it back to Izzet who beat Roberts with a header to the top corner.
This cancelled out Iweluma's great opener. Jones floated in a cross and the keeper was slow to come out and Iweluma had nodded the ball over him and into the empty net.
Iweluma had earlier dragged a shot wide after a good run, it beat the keeper but also the post!
Before Colchester equalised , we nearly went 2 up , but the keeper made a brilliant save to turn Iweluma's header over the bar (from a great cross by Leon Knight).
The winning goal was great. A great cross (Carpenter?) was nodded back by Iweluma and Leon Knight nodded the ball in from about 2 yards out, a header at just above knee high, a great goal.
Its great to see so many "home" grown players involved at the moment, and they all look good prospects! Harding, Virgo, El-Abd, McPhee, & Robinson have all gained good experience and actually look like they add to the team, rather than fill gaps and disappear once regular players back.
Roberts - 7 good in all he had to do
Harding - 7 great game and some crunching tackles again
Virgo - 7 as above and coped well when replaced Cullip at centre back
Butters - 7 took the taunts from the players and held solid
Cullip - 7 another great display, hope he is not out for long!
Oatway- 7 another battling performance, and was booked for the best challenge of the day, won the ball cleanly but the ref made a dreadful decision to book him
Carpenter - 6 bit quiter today, but still gave the usual 100%
Hart - 6 a bit of an off day, but still defended well, but caused us to defend quite deep
Jones - 6 great cross for the first goal, but like Hart didn't get forward as much as usual
Iweluma - 9 great home debut, good work rate, great control and another goal
Knight - 8 a great winner and some good link up play.
El-abd (on for Cullip) - 6 put himself about at right back
Piercy - 6 not many chances to shine, but a couple of good tackles
McPhee, Jones and Lee not used
