They followed up with "Does your boyfriend know you're here" (original aren't they!) to which the response was "I'd rather have a boyfriend than lose one nil".
Oh how we laughed and the village idiots didn't have a response other than standingaround in Burberry caps trying to look hard. We just walked through them laughing at them!
We left Worthing on the 8.40 and arrived via Victoria and Paddington into Swindon at midday. We jumped into the waiting taxis and were in the Steam Railway by about 10 past. More and more Brighton fans turned up included Gary "I drive like Nigel Mansel", plus Roy C and other real ale beer monsters.
We sat out in on the beer patio and started looking forward to the match. Luckily some friends of ours who live just outside Swindon and had come for a drink gave us a lift to the ground and we soon joined the large queue to the away stand.
We stood directly behind the goal on a little area that had no seats, so it was just like the good old days of standing up on a terrace!
I thought the Brighton fans were in great voice considering no roof, so lets make twice that noise on Thursday night. Swindon had been going on about how the Swindon roar would scare our players and they were betting on how many they would put past us!
I am sure our players were terrified by 12,000 statues, only singing every now and then, oh I bet Cullip and Oatway were scared and put off by the chants of "red army".
As for the match, well I imagine most people have seen it (if you haven't and live in the Meridian area, then there is a highlights programme at midnight along with the FA Vase and Conference play off final. (Winchester and Aldershot I guess are the reasons for those 2 matches.)
I thought Virgo had a superb match, Harding grew in confidence and Cullip and Butters were awesome. Swindon had 16 shots, but only 2 one target, which I think sums it up.
We had 2 shots on target and scored 1, so how King can complain is beyond me. He said we were lucky, lucky that we restricted them to 2 shots on target in 90 minutes? Reid IMHO is a good ball player, but still needs a few consecutive games to keep with the pace of the match for 90 minutes.
Our goal, well lucky yes, but its about time we had some!
So roll on Thursday night. DO we attack, get a goal and really put Swindon under pressure, or do we defend from the off? Tough call! Our defence can get us to Cardiff, but we need some Iewlumo or Knight magic to help them out.
Roberts - 8 safe as houses
Harding - 7 get better as the game went on
Virgo - 8 great battling display
Cullip - 9 captains performance yet again
Butters - 9 backed Cullip up all the way
Oatway - 7 great second half
Carpenter - 8 90 minutes of commitment yet again
Reid - 7 opposite to Oatway, great first half, tired in the second
Jones - 6 didn't do a great deal, but still gave 100%
Iwelumo - 7 held the ball up well, but marked out the game
Knight - 8 great fighting back, hope he gets at least one chance on Thursday!
Hart - 7 did make a difference when he came on
McGhee - 9 great tactics, team clearly motivated and a great substitution!
