Our first ever game against Spurs didn't come until November '77 when we played out a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane in front of 48,613 fans. We won the reverse fixture 3-1 in Hove in front of a crowd of more than 32,500 at The Goldstone.
We lost out on promotion that Season as Southampton & Spurs contrived to play out a 0-0 draw on the final day of the season. The result meant that both those clubs were promoted to the Old Division One in 2nd & 3rd places. The Albion missed out on Goal Difference finishing 4th, 11 points above 5th placed Blackburn.
Brighton went up the next season, as runners-up to Chrystal Palace.
